Fruit Tree Pruning Service
Pruning a fruit tree requires a different approach than pruning regular trees. Resist the urge to hire someone for a quick “trim,” as improper techniques can result in excessive growth in undesirable areas. We are the only specialist fruit tree pruning service in Leeds and Bradford, so get in touch for expert care that will help your fruit trees to thrive.

Regular pruning is the key to healthy and productive fruit trees.
Trees that are never pruned can grow into an unmanageable shape and size, making it difficult to harvest their fruit or even causing branches to snap off. They are more susceptible to diseases due to the reduced light and air circulation around the branches. Neglected fruit trees also become less productive over time as branches become weak and crowded. Ideally, your fruit trees will be pruned once a year to keep them in tip top shape.
We provide a professional and affordable pruning service that prevents and resolves these issues.
If you have any trees that need pruning, fill in the form at the top of this page and we will get back to work out a quote. We cover most of the Leeds and Bradford area, including LS1-LS20 and BD1-BD10. We may be able to reach other areas depending on the size of the job, and we might charge an additional travel fee.
Booking in advance
It’s better for your tree to have a lighter prune every year than a heavy prune once every few years. Yearly pruning helps to avoid an explosion of unwanted vertical growth that can follow a heavy prune and can be difficult to tame.
When you’re booking this year’s prune, consider also booking next year’s.
We’ll give you 20% off next year’s job if you book in advance this year.

Pruning FAQs
-
This depends on the type of fruit tree you have and what kind of pruning it requires. In general, pip fruit trees (apple and pear) should be pruned in the winter, while stone fruit trees (cherry, plum, peach and apricot) are best pruned in the summer. There are a few exceptions to this rule: trained fruit trees such as espaliers and cordons should be pruned in the summer, and young stone fruit trees should be pruned in the spring.
-
Older fruit trees can become less productive as they age and their branches become weak and crowded. Cutting out some larger branches in winter can encourage new growth in the spring and summer months and increase the tree’s fruit production for many more years to come. If your tree is very old and approaching the end of its life span, you may also want to consider planting new fruit trees to increase your fruit production.

Yes! For an additional £20, we will train you while we prune your tree and leave you with a handy pruning guide. This will give you the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to keep your tree in tip top shape after we’ve left.

We can remove the cuttings for an additional charge depending on the size of the job. Alternatively, we can process the cuttings to fit inside your brown bin or arrange them in a neat and manageable pile in your garden.

“Excellent service. My apple tree was pruned to thin out branches yet retain most of its shape. It will grow more healthily this year. I even managed to make a trellis with the cuttings. Thanks guys!”
“Super quick and friendly pruning and espaliering of my apple tree, and a book on how to maintain it myself in future. Really appreciate your visit Alan and Gini!”
